Macon Road Barbecue in Columbus

I ordered big order not knowing what I was getting myself into when I say disgusting my friend it is sickening I promise the sauce taste like its made of recycled trash I had a pulled pork sandwich and my fries where cool and almost hard

I grew up in Columbus back in the 60's and 70's and there was a Macon Rd. BBQ across Macon Rd, where the Winn Dixie is. As a kid, I would cash in coke bottles for 2 cents each and save up my money. Once I had 62 cents, I would walk down the road from Barbara Rd. and buy me a pork sandwich, Nehi orange soda and that cost me 62 cents. I know that is not the same place, but it is still "Macon Road BBQ" which brings back fond memories from my childhood. I can only hope that the current business is as good as what I remember from childhood. I am just thrilled to see there is still a BBQ place there for me to recollect my memories of.

My favorite bbq of all time. It's in my hometown, and is a must visit whenever I visit Columbus. Have not found any other bbq like it anywhere. I personally love the chipped beef bbq sandwich and Brunswick stew - but you really CAN'T go wrong.

If you know better than you'll understand !!!

Oh my goodness was this yummy in my tummy. To my knowledge is a family-run restaurant and they do very well job. Everything was great, I got the lean meat with coleslaw and beans of course you get bread, fork ,knife, napkins. They set you up. I will always go back to Macon Road barbecue.

An Epicurean delight, the Sweet Ice Tea done to perfection, the meats smoked and moist. Thanks again for sending the free barbecue meal to a soldier that just graduated from the Army 1st PAT C Company.

The staff are the best! While they dont have beef brisket and the bbq sauce is mustard based, the ribs with hot bbq sauce is unbelievable good. Polish dog is a thumbs up!

Had bbq pork slaw and Brunswick stew. I would not recommend any. Even the lemonade was mixed with something out of the soda fountain.

I love eating here. They are very personable. However, you need to get there early in the day if you was a potato covered in pork or chicken, because they run out all the time. Which is not a bad think, at lease I know it should always be on the menu.

I'm 53 I was raised on this Bar b que! Brunswick stew best I've ever had. Best believe when I'm in my home town I'm eating at Macon Rd😀😘💞

I've been eating there for over 10 years and they are still by far my favorite BBQ joint!!! Staff is always friendly and food is always fresh and hot and ready!! Love this place! Keep up the good eats!!

I've never actually been to the restaurant but I've ordered delivery a few times and it's always been very good. The sliced pork is phenomenal. I also called up there a couple times and the staff was, honestly, surprisingly friendly. They always sound like they're having a great day and it's very pleasant.

I Just had lunch here with my husband. He had told me about how good their BBQ and he was going to take me soon. He was absolutely right! It was good and the staff were nice.

Real southern BBQ. Would give them 5 but...no brisket! What kind of BBQ place doesn't have brisket? Combo plate is pretty epic though.

Above average BBQ place, was bummed that they didn't have collards as side especially as they are a pork BBQ place. There smoked pork and chicken were excellent, but the ribs needed a bit more time in the smoker. Overall I would recommend this place for down home Georgia cookin.

Food and service are great. Restaurant is a little run down, but clean. Must try their mac & cheese!!!

The atmosphere is quaint with a local favorite vibe. Very busy. Full parking lot. Great food. Wood smoked. Mac and cheese is home made. Very cheesy. Baked potato with bbq is a huge portion. Boardwalk style fries. Fantastic experience

Been going here for years and the food has been consistently good. Place is old and cozy but does the job. Brunswick stew is great and its how it should be done.

This is one of my favorite places for barbecue! I have been going to eat here since I was a teenager, and have never had a bad experience. I also always get my Thanksgiving hams from this place. The employees make you feel welcome when you walk in the door. For the money, you can't beat it.

Maybe I'm just not used to "southern" bbq, although Texas is very south of me being up in Washington. Bbq sauce was thin, meat was not "falling off the bone" like it was reported to be and my favorite side dish, greens...they didn't have. I had the sample platter with 2 sides. The mac n cheese was the best part of the meal.

The Best BBQ to be had in the Columbus area. And I've been in search of good BBQ here for 47 years.

I've been going to Columbus, GA for well over for 40 years to visit my family. EVERY single time that we are in GA, we eat Macon Road BBQ. In fact, I bought a shirt about 5 years ago. This is the most home style restaurant I have ever eaten at. The pork platter is so worth it! (I usually get the brunswick stew and cole slaw). Their hot sauce is amazing as well too. I know they were affiliated with Brennan BBQ, which closed. They do still carry the extra spicy BBQ sauce from there as well. It is definitely a no frills place, but I love their food! I find their prices to be very fair!

Love this place. Inexpensive, friendly staff, non-commercial hometown mood. Order sweet tea and you get the whole pitcher. BBQ plates with stew are cheap and great. I don't recommend the mac & cheese.

Yesterday’s meat served today. Reheated on the smoker leaving it dried out. Brunswick stew is castleberries Brunswick stew with some of that day old bbq added in. This is just not good! But in a pinch it will fill your stomach.

Great BBQ, Great French Fries, and Great Wings. I suggest eating there though before forming an opinion. I've had it delivered and wasn't impressed, however after eating there I realized it's just better to eat it as it comes up. Super friendly staff too!

Not as good as Texas BBQ, but great for Georgia bbq

Ordered the combo plate w/ potato salad and mac cheese. Ordered a small brunswick stew on the side. The potato salad and brunswick is actually what gave them 3 stars for me. They were really really good.The ribs, chipped and sliced pork were all dry, tough and bland. The mac n cheese was clearly not home made and reminded me of school cafeteria food. I would def go back for that brunswick stew tho.

PLEASANTLY SURPRISED!!!! I'm ALWAYS looking for ribs. I've been coming to Columbus for 3 yrs. This was my first time seeing this place. I will be stopping everytime I'm in town. The balance of vinegar and mustard in the sauce is PERFECTLY DELICIOUS!!. I like the char taste to the ribs. The char gives it flavor but it's better with the sauce. Sandwich was good as well. Looking forward to a continuous relationship 😂😂😂.
